My major

My major as of right now, has been planned as Business Finance. Recently though, after taking Econ 103 with Professor Rustici, I realized that I have an interest in economics. Being able to determine why prices are the way they are and how I could plan for future economic effects is just some of the many advantages I would have with learning more about economics. Still being officially undeclared, it's hard to determine which path I will follow.

My major is biology. I love biology, I have a strong fascination with it which helps me keep interest in class. I do want to go either pre-med or pre-dental with it. Pre-med and pre-dental are both appealing from a money standpoint but if you don't have an interest or a want to learn the material it is almost impossible to succeed.

My major in undeclared in the Business but i am thinking about business management and minor in accounting that is if i can do it of course. I like the business world, i like the fact that one does not have to sit and stare at the computer the whole day but instead they can go out and meet people and make business friends. They are the ones that bring in money. I chose this major because first i hate science, i am absolutely horrible at it, i was good at it during middle and high school years but up until now and 12th grade, i failed, horribly. In addition, although i love math, i just cant know for a fact that i wont have the strength to solve math problems or think the whole day. Therefore, my only choice left is business. I am good at talking and persuading so i think I will succeed in this career.

Week 13

my major is psychology and I plan on becoming a MFCC. that stands for marraige family and child counselor. I feel these are areas that counselors are needed. but I have been thinking about changing my major to some type of writing or journalism. i love psychology but i have a deep passion for writing. but next year will tell bc i dont know what i want to do yet.

Week 13

I am majoring in english. My concentration is non fiction writing and editing. I hope to be able to write professionally and then one day be an editor of a magazine or some other publication. Since I want to be a writer I will need to be able to write creatively, concisely, and persuasively. I want people to be interested in what I have to say. If I am writing the same thing that every one else is writing no one will want to read it. Therefore I need to figure out how to make my pieces my own. In writing you have deadlines and limits as to how much space to have to fill. That is why you need to be concise. Say what you need to say and be done. If you go on and on you can lose your audience. I need to make people believe in what I am writing. If I don;t have a good argument or a valid point then I will have no readers.

The majr that im pursuing is Health Science with a concentration in exercise science. In this major I will have to write a lot which is good because I feel like it's one of my stronger points. I will have to come up with new ways to persuade people to come and let me teach them how to become physically fit. I will also have to come up with a business plan to get funding are hired to become an owner of my own gym or open up my own business. The writing will have to be persuasive, detailed and intriguing. You need to be persuasive to gain clients and have them want to do this for you. It needs to be detailed to cover your butt in case something happens and you can say "Can't sue me, you signed this contract right here." It needs to be intriguing because you want your audience to feel like they would be able to learn something from the skills you have to offer. The more people interested the better the chances are of you gaining clients.

Week 13

The major I am most interested in is Geology. It is kind of a family tradition and it is a big plus that I find the topic interesting. I figure that the most writing that would be used in this sort of work field will be research based. This meaning the writing will be methodized, analytical, and veritable since it is more earth science based than it is creative writing. I feel this writing is different than the typical prompt based paper since it is based on gathered evidence and for the most part is factual. It is methodized since you have to go about research in a certain order in order for it to make sense. Analytical for it is mostly examination of rocks and other minerals and veritable because it is, again, factual. There is no fluff (for the most part) to this subject, which can be a little of a downer. 

my major

i;m a film major and i'm not sure what i want to do in it but i['m leaning more towards the writing aspect. i really hate writing but if its for something i like or something i thought of, its like my best friend. writing in the film industry has to be unique,well presented, and good( on the basis of whatever genre the film is). writing for film is extremely competitive and i'm going to need to really brainstorm and put whats in my head onto paper.however in my field its not what you know but who you know so i guess there are alot of times where writing won't help.

My major

My major is IT (Information technology) I am not 100% sure what the requirements are for the class and to tell the truth I'm not sure how the degree will help me after college. My goal is to join the Air Force and become a pilot after college so I'm not sure how handy a degree in IT will be. However after i finish my term in the Air Force it will come in handy when i need to get a job in the civilian world. So really the degree is for even further into my future then right after college and if i cant be a pilot then it will come in handy right after college so it all works out.

Sports Management is the field I see myself pursuing. I am from California so the west coast sports teams are definitely engrained into my heart and soul. My dream is to be involved or even own a part of the Los Angeles Lakers franchise. I know that I will need a lot of connections as well as persuading skills. Therefore one situation where good writing is necessary will be in my resume'. All jobs seek someone who they think will be a great and refreshing addition to their team, so it is key to have writing skills in my field of study as well as my career in sports. The three adjectives to describe how my writing should be are persuasive, genuine, and believeable. Persuasive because not just anyone will be hired. Genuine for the fact that people lie and will try to cheat the company, and finally believable because I will make promises that I will keep and that are logical.

Kevin Cobb Reporting For ESPN

The career field that I am most interested in pursuing is sports broadcasting. I one day imagine myself working as a lead sports anchor for ESPN, the world wide leader in sports. I have always known how important writing is when dealing with sports journalism. For example with writing for a paper, you need to be able to explain in detail the event that has occurred. You need to be able to paint the images for everyone that was not there to witness it. I expect to be writing or co-writing my lines for highlight plays that I would be covering for ESPN. If you can write well, then you are on the right track for a great career. Your writings and your voice will be what guide you to success. Being able to write compositions is your first step in becoming a broadcaster.
I hope one day, I will achieve my goal and be covering sports for ESPN.

Air Power!

As a future Air Force officer, it is very important to have very efficient writing skills. Writing is a part of our curriculum. The Air Force wishes us to have accurate, beneficial, and consise papers. This is known as the ABC's of writing. I feel that I will be doing pleny of writing in the Air Force, particularly reports to my superiors. Whether these reports be about preformance, or a new idea to assist in the protection of the United States.

My major is tourism and events planing and i excpet if i get high enough up on the managment then i wont have to write papers anymore. i guesss until i get there i will have to write reports on how the project is going. i also will have to write reports on different events that i see. more of a report writing style.

Week 13

For my major, civil engineering, the writing that I'll most likely encounter will be project proposals and reports. Writing in this field needs to be concise, persuasive and informational because project proposals are used to get people to pay for projects so they will need a lot of information about their decision as well as some persuasion. Writing in this field also needs to be informational and concise because reports are used to state the facts about projects; they need to present the information and only that.

For your final blog entry, please describe the major or career field that you're most interested in pursuing. Then, describe the kind of writing situations you anticipate encountering in that career/major. What does good writing look like in your chosen discipline? Come up with three adjectives to describe what writing in your career field needs to be (concise, logical, persuasive, etc.) and then describe why those adjectives are the ones you chose (give examples)!

During my high school years, i interacted a lot with my teachers, especially my government teacher during senior year. He had his special way of giving extra credit by making his students bring in tissue boxes. Each box would be worth 5 points and each quarter a maximum we can have is 5 boxes which are equivalent to 25 points. He was a most amazing and hilarious teacher ever. But his tests were really hard so i usually did not ace them all. I would found myself at the end of every quarter buying much tissue boxes. One time, 25 points was not enough to get me the grade that i wanted. I asked him if i can bring 6 boxes instead and amazing he agreed to it. I was so relieved and the only i can remember him saying was "that was my first time and would be my last time". He was such a genuine guy and a very passionate teacher. I loved him and his class very much.

Week 9

Almost every week I would be called down to the office and I would always think what this time. I knew i had done something wrong but what could it be since i just got called down the week before. Once i got down there it was a cop that i personally knew and he gave me the best gift I could ever get, a PBA card. He said, "Now don't go driving like an idiot but this will help when you do get pulled over." He was a great guy and would do anything for me when i needed him to. He got me out of so many tickets for my tint on my car it was crazy. I felt really comfortable talking to him because he was like one of my friends always talking to me and making jokes that most cops wouldn't even give you the time of day. He changed my views on cops and how they really are compared to what people say. He was a very compasionate person that cared a lot about me and if it wasn't for this idk if I would have a license haha.

Blog 9

In high school, I had to go talk to my Science teacher about my project. I was scared I had done something wrong but she wound up asking if she could use it as an example for its creativity. "I selected a few projects to share with the class and one was yours. All you need to do is present it." In exchange, she gave me an extra five points on the project. She was a very intimidating teacher, hence why I was super nervous. However, she approached the conversation very casually and I had no worries. I feel that talking to teachers about corrections on a paper or a test is harder though (criticism can be a little tough coming from teachers). But then again they point out things that you would not have known or seen if they did not call you out on it. 

Week 9

In high school, I rarely disscussed issues with teachers. They were very frightening to me, and i just wanted them to like me. So when I did go to a teacher, I was very polite and courteous. I tried just to be there long enough to ask my question, and get out of there as quick as I could. I find teachers to be scary, unless I have known them for many years.

This past week we've been discussing the difference between summarizing, paraphrasing and quoting, and when it's appropriate/beneficial to do each in your writing. Next week, classes will be canceled so that each of you can meet with me for a half hour to discuss your progress in the course. This week, please post an analysis/reflection of one time when you were required to interact one on one with a professor/instructor/teacher. I want you to give a little thought to your past interactions with instructors because for some of you this might be the first office hours you've attended as a college undergraduate (for some it might also be your last, if no other professor requires it!) It can seem really intimidating, depending on your individual personality and comfort level with talking to a professor one on one.

Please post a one sentence summary of an experience/experiences you've had meeting with a professor (for example, "in high school, every time I was required to speak to the teacher it was because I had done something wrong" or "once my professor asked me to come in to discuss my term paper, which he liked so much he wanted to use as an example for his students.") This is a summary, so it should be a very succinct account of what happened. Next, paraphrase or quote one thing that the teacher said to you (for example, "Mr. Miller said that my attendance was really dragging down my average.") i think i'm late again

knowing me im the guy in the group thats like i want to go home.i have a tendency in a group to try to rush things and get things done but i guess im also an info seeker too. if i dont know what to look for, i feel lost within my group so i guess i just take that responsibility upon myself. when it comes to maintaining group harmony and what not, i'm definetly a compromiser. i try to create ideas that work for everyone. like i said i have a tendency to try and rush things so the faster a compromise is reached, the easier the works going to be

Week 8

I consider myself an opinion giver and an elaborate. Being an opinion giver can sometimes be a hindrance in a group because you really aren't adding anything to the discussion sometimes you are just saying something to make your self feel better about not really having any input on the subject. Where as being an elaborate is helpful because you either agree or disagree with something and then you say why or why not and add to the topic so you do have input on the subject.

Week 8

I consider myself an initiator and elaborator. When the group first gets together, I try to start the conversation. I also try to get peoples opinions to get the group communicating. Then I normally try to fall back and let someone else take control. But if I see that no one will do that then I just continue to "control" the group setting. This is beneficial for the group bc at least I know we will get somewhere. But it could also be bad bc if someone who is like a dictator comes in, it's hard to get the group back in order.

Week 8

I am an initiator, an opinion givers, an elaborator, (something they didn't have on there) an organizer, and a comprimiser. Usually I take immediate leadership in breaking the ice of the group. I find that is the hardest part of group discussion. The original breaking of the ice. So typically I will go ahead and initiate the discussion and get people thinking, even try and throw a joke in. From there I throw in alot of opinions, sometimes to much and get a little dogmatic over the situation. Then on someones opinion I will elaborate on the idea if possible. I believe an organizer is also important. "Okay now we have all this info" lets put it together. Or, okay now lets go back over and organize all that has been said to something understandable. So I guess you could say I am a clarifier. Worst part is I am very opinionated. Sometimes a distraction as well. As I have matured though these problems seem to go away.

Week 8

The role that I tend to take on in groups is that of the elaborator. I think that this is mostly because I'm not usually one to speak up, my personality tends to be more that of an observer, and I chime in when I feel that I could add to the discussion. I think that this can be positive to the group because sometimes what one person suggested or said wasn't clear, and it's good to have somebody else elaborate on that as it can make the idea or suggestion more clear.

Between now and Friday, you're all reading chapter 15 in Bruce Ballenger's The Curious Writer in anticipation of our first Peer Review day. In addition to this, we discussed some of the gripes/complaints that we have about the process of peer review.

Now I'd like you to turn this critical eye inward and ask yourself what kind of a group member you have been in the past, or have a tendency to be. On page 645 of your textbook, in a blue box, you'll see a list of group roles that Ballenger has come up with. Come up with a label for yourself ... what kind of group member are you? My topic will be the benefits of immigration in the united states. I really am interested in some of the posotives of this because everyone thinks its terrible that we have people immigrating to the us. So my research topic is tattooing. I think my thesis is goin to be why tattoing is socially unacceptable. i dont think i will have any problems with this since i have tattoos and know a liltttle bit about them already.

My topic of choice for the research essay is bridge construction and maintenance. More specifically, I will be focusing on new possible policies, concerning bridge design, that could be implemented in an effort to reduce the need for repairs, and therefore reduce the cost of bridge maintenance.

the hardest part of a research paper for me is just making sure that I site everything correctly and paraphrase without taking too much from the article. The easiest part for me is once I have all the facts from my sources written down is just reflecting my own opinion in the paper, its just like talking about it except writing it down

The hardest part of the research process for me is to narrow all my searches down and focus into one topic that I am choosing. After that it’s really difficult for me to put them into order, in deciding which information I should present first and etc… Then after a while, after I could write everything that I could possibly think of, when I run out of ideas of what to talk about! I am stuck, that was the worst part of writing a paper is sitting there thinking what else we can BS to to make the paper meet the requirement lengths.

The easiest part of the research process I think is finding where to search about the topic, when I have decided on which topic I choose, I think it would be very easy to find search results. The next thing that I enjoy the most is citing the sources, yes it can be very confusing sometimes but it is not as hard or require much of thinking. I think of it this way, whenever I am citing that means I am done with paper!! That’s a satisfying thought yea?

Week 6

The hardest part of the writing process for me is getting started. I procrastinate a lot when it comes to writing. This is not always bad though because I generally write well under pressure. I also hate citing sources. No matter how many times I use MLA or APA or whatever the style may be I still get confused and find it bothersome to have to include a bibliography. I also find it difficult to write about things I am not interested in or do not care about.

The asiest part for me is actuallly doing the writing. I love to write, especially about things that are controversial or that I have a strong opinion about. I like to do research and see what other people think about issues or what other people's opinions are. I am looking forward to doing this research project. I am just having a hard time deciding what topic to actually write about.

Week 6 Blog Prompt

The hardest part for writing a research paper definitely deals with citing and referencing. I am fairly familiar with APA style and MLA citing, but having to integrate the sources withing the paper is something that I need a little more practice. Another challenge that I frequently face when writing is actually getting started. My biggest obstacle is writing the opening paragraph. Also my biggest fear relating to the citing is making sure that I site sources correctly and not accidentally plagarizing.

The easiest part for writing a research paper is writing once the first paragraph is complete. I feel a lot more comfortable writing after my introduction is finished because it lets me write without feeling pressure because I know exactly what I am going to write about. It is necessary to outline and brainstorm my ideas before I begin writing, but when I mess around and begin to free write about the topic it helps bring up new ideas. Which in the end gives me some insight on what I want to write about.

The hardest part of the research process for me is getting started i always have the hardest time deciding what topic to write on. This step can sometimes take me a couple of hours to a couple of days depending on how quickly i can decide on a topic. So the start of the research process is always the hardest.
The part i like the most about the research process is once you have all your info how the paper pretty much writes itself. Everything flows nicely all you have to do i make sure you put the information goes in the right spot and your thought run smoothly to form a well drawn out paper.

Roses

The most difficult part of this research project has so far been deciding which project I will do. I finally have decided roses. Now my issue is how will I discuss roses. There has to be some sort of point.

The easiest part of the research paper will be finding infromation on my subject. I will particularly enjoy learning the history of roses and their important in romance.

the hardest part for me is just meeting the requirements of the paper. i always end up writing one on a topic i dont like or one thats kind of limited so i'll end up just BSing the whole paper. i mean really how can you make a 6-7 page paper on how on movies are making kids obese.also another thing for me is thinking up a good thesis.it takes me forever to think of a good one but after that it gets alot easier.

the easiest part for me is finding a topic when i get the chance to do something i want. every research paper in high school was based off of some list of topics and i just had to pick one. so its alot easier to stay focus and find information when its a topic i wanted to do.

The hardest part of the research process for me is deciding which lucky sources get to be included in the end product, my paper. I never have trouble finding sources and information, but the problem is that I sometimes get too much.

The easiest part of the research process for me is putting everything together. After I've decided what sources and information to use, its a piece of cake.

Week Six

The hardest part of the research process for me would have to be researching information for my topic. It's always easy to find sources for any topic. But my challenge comes when it's time to decide which source to use. I also find it hard on which information I am going to include in my paper and how much of one source will I use. Citing the source is also difficult b/c there are so many different ways of citing. Depending on the type of source you cite some things one way and other things another way.
The easiest part of the research process is putting my paper in order. I usually figure out the order of my paper before I began writing. This helps me stay organized and on topic. Just plain writing the paper is the easiest part for me as well. I really dont like the whole research process, I rather just start writing.

Week Six Blog Prompt

Beginning next week, we're going to be starting research projects that will last for the rest of the semester. In preparation for this, please write two paragraphs. The first paragraph should begin, "The hardest part of the research process for me is _________________" and the second should begin, "The easiest part of the research process (or the part I enjoy most) is _________________."
In these paragraphs you can discuss: finding academic sources, evaluating those sources, refining a thesis, finding relevant quotes, citing quotes properly, integrating other people's quotes into your own argument, organizing all the information you find, or any other part of the writing process you'd like.

I am sorry for the tardiness. For this week I chose to describe my old xanga page that was popular about 4-5 years ago. I love framing, especially with small thin borders. When you first enter my page, there would be a pop up upon entering. It says "Cho em mot co hoi duoc khong" meaning "May I have another chance". My background font color is gray an in Arial. But as for the post, the color is pink, and for the date color, it's red. My border color is pink but the background is plain white. I love simplicity, the more simple it is, the more it allure my attraction. Back then when i was in 8th grade, everyone had one so i wanted to make one for my own; a page that's all about me. I used to write in it everyday, writing how my day went and my emotions. But now everyone has a facebook or a myspace but in my opnion xanga is more like diary more than myspace or facebook.

Week 5

I choose Joe Lean & the Jing Jang Jong myspace page. They are a new up and coming band that knows how to effectively advertise their music. The web page is set up to center around the bands name. The page seems very plain, with black and white photographs. However, the name of the band is in all yellow. The font they use is unique as well because it is in all caps, yet looks very playful. Also, each "J" looks very long, or "lean". The font looks like the band is stylish and different. If you look below the bands name, you see a black and white picture of them. By looking at the picture, I can conclude that this band is in fact stylish and different. Other things I noticed from this web page is that it has many different aspects once you scroll down, and music is playing constantly in the background. 

Week 5

For the week five blog prompt I choose to describe the linkinpark.com home page. In the background they have an enlarged version of their symbol for the reason of letting you know your on Linkin Park's website. They have different videos showcasing things like their concerts or music videos to show how kick ass they are. They also have their own news feed showing articles or events that are going on with the band. This keeps me interested in the band by letting me know what they're up to.

Myspace

Myspace uses special techniques and colors to attract the reader to go to the website. The website uses a specific color of blue to show consistency. Myspace also uses the logo of three people standing next to eachother. This shows that myspace is all about communicating with people. Myspace uses many techniques especially repetition to show the reader familiarity so that the reader feels comfortable when going to myspace.com.

Week 5

The quick visual analysis i'm going to do is of the Penny Arcade website Banner. The first thing that stand out is the logo it's big and bold so you notice it right away, the letter pattern also moves slightly up and to the right as the words finish making the initial view of the logo much more dramatic. When you bring that into context with the light blue color of the banner along with the pictures of the characters in the web comic you get a feel for how lighthearted the website is. The characters are shown with slight smirks that give away their slightly sarcastic attitude that is prevalent throughout their work. The last thing i'll go into is what the 2 characters are holding, a die and a game controller, which symbolize what the site and comic are mostly about, gaming.

Week 5

It shows two guys that are in a stance while break dancing. You can tell by the way they are holding themselves in the air, they need extraordinary strength in the arms. Also, since it looks like it's in a studio, the dancing could be considered an art, and is definitely a spectator sport/art. Based on what they are wearing, I am thinking that the sleeveless shirts help them use there arms more freely, and its necessary to have sneakers; it looks like they also wear hats but I am not sure how they play a role in break dancing, based on the picture.

Iam goin to talk about the pictures on my facebook. I put pictures of myself and of friends. This shows that I like hanging out with my friends and I enjoy having a good time. I also have alot of wrestling pictures on my site. This shows that I am athletic and enjoy participating in sports.

Week 5

I am going to look at the font and pictures on this page. The font on this page is a serif font, this makes it easier to read, and follow the line of writing on the page, which is good because I sometimes find it hard to move from line to line while reading from a computer. The picture on this page goes along with the title, and the title of the class, giving a visual image into your mind. The colors on this page are pastels, making it easier on the eyes while trying to read from the page.

Week 5

I'm going to describe my myspace and the pictures that I use on it. My images are simple and of me playing soccer, this shows everyone that I'm a soccer player and they can judge me by just looking at me when they first open my page. I use just generic text but I have a beach background which gives them insight into the fact that I love the beach. My simplicity also shows the people looking at it is that I really dont care about myspace that much and you should facebook me.

Anaphora- During the beginning of each stanza Tupac always starts off saying, "I see no changes" I think he wanted to emphasize this point to motivate the listener to make a difference.

Repetition- The song is in first person so he repeats I, and I'm. Also he repeats "Thats the way it is."

Binary Opposition- In the first stanza he began talking about hunger then the next bar mentioned his opinion towards the police. Also he mentions that we should rid ourselves from evil and follows by saying that more blacks are smocking crack than whites.

Repetition: "In this kingdom by the sea" was repeated throughout this poem, at the end of almost every phrase. Also, "wind" was said a few times. I think that that combination repeating these two phrases paints a dreary sad picture for the reader. It makes you visualize being by the sea, and along with the wind, makes you see grey skies and cold weather. It really sets the tone for this poem because its about a guy losing the love of his life.

Repetition- "Baby It's Cold Outside" is used continuously throughout the entire song. This is so the crooner can influence his "beautiful" to join him a little longer. =p

Binary Opposition- The entire time the part sang by beautiful is conflicted by staying or not staying. In the end she decides to stay.

Anomalies- The part sang by beautiful or baby asks about her drink or cigeratte as if trying to distract herself from leaving.

Week 4 Blog Prompt

In class we’ve been discussing strategies for textual analysis. Specifically, we’ve practiced noticing patterns of repetition, binary oppositions, and anomalies. Observing rhetorical patterns such as these can provide an entry point into analysis. This week, post either a poem or song lyrics that you’ve found. Then, identify one such rhetorical pattern (say, the repetition of a word or phrase). Finally, arrive at some conclusion regarding the significance of that rhetorical pattern to the tone or "meaning" of the piece.

The instrument

This device allows people to communicate without using their mouths. Theyre everywhere, but whenever you seem to really need one, no one ever has one. They can come in different shapes and sizes but they all do the same task. This instrument is useful in everyday life and is used by everyone almost everyday.

I recently came to discover a new place where people come to hear various preachers and their sermons about different things in life; from the rules of calculation to how to write on pieces of paper, these people form in a cult fashion at different times and different days to listen to lectures on various subjects. There is one that I attended on a Monday at 9:30 in the morning where a minister was giving a lesson on how to compress buttons on a board to which a box records what buttons you pushed and then saves it so that everyone else can see what you pressed, that had to be the most ridiculous thing I had ever seen.

What am I?

It is in a little black case that i use to carry it around for those special moments that just need to be remebered. You can always find me with it but sometimes it just needs to sit home and charge. When i want to do something with it I put a little card in it so it can save some things. I open it up and a very bright light sometimes flickers for about a second. Than I go back in and wait for my turn to be plugged into the computer so I can go on Facebook. What am I.

Blog Prompt Week 3

The ritual of patrolling an area of land is one many do daily, some during the day some during the night. These people will jog around a pre-set area with headphones on as if listening to what each other are saying or viewing. The area these people patrol is usually circular in nature with their residence at a point on the circumference of the circle. They will wave and smile as they pass each other as if they know of the other person but don't quite trust them. I guess the patrol is one of paranoia watching the area around which they live for signs of trouble.

This object is rectangular in shape and leads to many different views. You can go through a wide variety of emotions, from happiness to sadness, even horror. This object is usually always in use when people are relaxing at home. It can conform to anyone's interest with a simple push of a button.

This can cause great pain to ones mouth if not used properly. The object consists of a stick with a circular shape on top. It is edible, but you have to remove a crinkled piece of plastic in order for this to happen. It comes in a variety of colors but if a person puts the object in their mouth long enough, the end result is the same. To get to the end result, you have to get through the beginning. The beginning can take either a long time or a short time depending on if one bites down on the hard, circular service (hence cause of great pain). However, the end result is a favorite among most people. A person keeps this in their mouth or makes an spherical shape outside their mouth that lasts for a very short time.  This object is very sticky and one would not want this near hair, rugs, or any other articles of clothing. Again, this can last for hours or a few minutes, depending on the taste and texture. Often it is given away at barber shops, banks, schools and other places you can find sugar-crazed people.  

This object is hated by all the students in my opninion because of the noise that it makes. Its noise signifies something. To me, it is a start of my day. Although it is very pretty and cute but I don't really like it because when the power goes out, it goes out as well. When the power is on again, the light keeps on twitching unless we fix it. It is a rectangular box with many confusing buttons I think. I can never get it right when I first got it. It is placed next to my bed where the lamp and my glasses are. I don't usually dust it very much so as of right now it is very dusty. I think I should go and dust it now.

The Box

The object I am going to describe is a rectangular box. This box has a piece of rectangular glass in the center. This object has many miscellenous buttons along the bottom of the rectangle. It is usually black in color and reflects images when the power is off. When power is on the box has moving images. There are many cords in the back of this box, as well as places to plug cords into.

The rainmaker: In every home I see at least one of these. Everyone in the home uses it but never at the same time. its a room within a room. A very small room. Sometimes with clear glass on one of the sides. A door or drape is the portal to enter. Once inside there are a series of knobs. After turning them, I hear a noise as if I am about to take off on an airplane; and within a second, rain covers me and I am soaked head to toe.

Looking for the first time at this thing, I wouldn't even know where to begin. It's kind of like a rectangle, yet has many small buttons. Should I try and push them? Yes, when you push the soft button pads it makes a beeping sound. When the thing beeps these lines show up on this clear see through plate. If you push the buttons in a sequence, it talks to you. I wonder who is in this little rectangle that is talking back to me? They don't seem to know me. I wonder?

Week 3 Blog Prompt: Making the Ordinary Extraordinary

In Horace Miner’s “Body Ritual Among the Nacirema,” everyday American spaces, objects and rituals are de-familiarized in order paint a picture of Americans as a strangely fastidious, ritual-obsessed culture (the way outsiders might describe us). This process of “making the familiar strange and the strange familiar” is something that ethnographers and fieldworkers must navigate as they investigate and write about cultures.

For this prompt, take something that’s familiar to you and reexamine it as if you were seeing it for the first time. Try something simple (an everyday object, the way you style your hair, drive a car, take in the mail, or prepare for a sporting event.) Describe the object or ritual in detail, and identify what might seem strange or extraordinary to others.

my tardy week 2

I know this kinda late and I probably wont get credit but I took time to think about it so I might as well do it. My best and worst teacher would have to be my physics teacher during my junior year.He was the worst because he really enjoyed messing with people and failing people. If you've ever seen the show scrubs, he was like the teacher version of dr cox. In an ironic twist he was also one of the best teachers I ever had because his class was the only class I ever took in high school where I learned relevant info that can actually help me out later on in life.I barely passed his class but he taught in such a way that now I have a part of my brain devoted to physics. Its hard to look at everyday life stuff without thinking about the physics behind it but it makes fights and car crashes alot cooler.

My best teacher

The best teacher i had in high school was my tech ed teacher. He was the colest teacher in the school becuse he didn't care what people did and he would let it slide. But if he didn't like you or new that you were a trouble maker, he would be mean and make u do alot of work. This teacher liked every one is his class and in the school. In class, the work wouldn't have to be done completely and we would be a good grade on the project.

Ms. Skinner

Unfortunately, I understand that I am probably not the only one who has had this tragic problem. My worst teacher was also my best. Ms. Skinner was by far my hardest teacher I have had. Now some might argue, just because they are hard does not mean that they are terrible.

Ms. Skinner had standards above the normal high school teacher, and from what I have seen recently she has higher standards than almost all of my college classes. For a junior year U.S. History teacher, a college student will have a difficult time. Though, for this reason she was my best teacher because it forced me to learn on my own, and now almost all of my college courses seem pretty moderate in difficulty.

Ms. Skinner was a difficult teacher due to her need for all homework to be done on time, with a ridiculous amount to be completed in the small amount of time. An example is her need for 20 pages to be read the evening assigned, then an 8 to 10 page outline written for this. This was a normal stress. Even higher level students with continues good marks had problems with this teacher.

When it came to writing, it was the new things she wanted us to use in our writing, but at the same time we had no understanding of. For example we had to write a research paper using a new style of sourcing, yet she would not teach us this new style of sourcing. This method failed she realised. Half the class failed that assignment, but it was okay because we had a second chance.

None the less, everything at the moment had to be done, on time. Under to little time. It was very stressful. Although, if it was not for her. I do not think that I would understand the United States as well, nor would I be as prepared for college.

Week 2

My favorite teacher hands down is my 12 grade AP English teacher Mrs. Scott. At the beginning of the year i was not her best student because English was not one of my better subjects but she continually worked with me until i got to the level i needed too be at. Her teaching method was very effective with me because i am a hands on learner and she taught using several hands on methods such as group projects and group discussions. When it came time for the senior trip she came with us and it was a great experience hanging out with her and all our friends in Florida instead of in the class room so the whole class became friends with her and i still consider her a friend to this day. That is why she is my favorite teacher .

The Best Teacher

During my 11th grade year in high school my English teacher, Ms. Brown, really left an everlasting impression on my life. She was very loving and refreshing compared to every teacher I have had. One main reason why she was able to connect with the entire class was due to her young age. I also looked to her as a mentor because I could discuss any issue with her. Her ethnicity and cultural background also influenced the strong connection between her, myself, and my classmates. My style of learning leans more towards an interactive method of teaching, which Ms. Brown is the master this skill. Overall learning was more exciting and easy because of her enthusiastic personality.

Week 2

The best teacher I ever had was my high school Physics teacher. He always made class so interactive and gave us lots of projects throughout the whole year so that we could really see the concepts "in motion". He was also enthusiastic and had an attitude that was addicting. The class was never boring and you never walked out without learning something new. 

Week 2

The best teacher I have ever had was my Psychology and Sociology teacher. Her name was Mrs.Sayer. Mrs.Sayer made class fun no matter what. Normally teachers just give instructions. But she was very enthusiased about what she teaches. She was also very motivating. Being bored in one of her classes is almost impossible. Mrs.Sayer was someone who help me confirm my major as Psychology. My 11th and 12th grade years of high school were fun due to her teaching techniques.

Week 2

The best teacher I ever had was my junior year of high school. I was taking AP psychology and had a teacher named Mr. Wheeler. He did not spend the whole class time lecturing or teaching from our book. He engaged the students while at the same time challenging them to look at things in a new or different way. He taught in a way that made students want to come to class and actually participate. He told incredible stories and led great classroom discussions. He was able to relate the material to our lives as high schoolers which made class that much more fun. He actually wanted us to know the material not just memorize for tests or the AP exam. He put the effort into each and every one of us and treated us as adults who could make their own decisions and draw their own conclusions. He made sure we all knew he was genuiely there for us if we needed anything, even if it wasn't school related. He would give assignments such as art projects which tied into perceptions in the psychological realm. He also gave us assignments that helped us to get to know one another and form a strong class bond. Many people in my class, including Mr. Wheeler, I still keep in touch with. And, best of all, I still remember much of what I learned that year, including the lessons not found in out textbook.

Week Two Blog Prompt

Describe either the best or the worst teacher you’ve ever had during your career as a student. What was it about that individual’s teaching style that you liked/disliked? Try to relate this back to your own individual method of learning and writing. Were you compatible? Incompatible? Was he/she more or less relatable because of age? Culture? To make an analogy to sports, writing is like cycling with "The Tour de Mind" sometimes you pick up your pen and the words are coming like when you are coasting down a hill and other times it is like you are struggling to get up a hill and can't get the right words out. In the end, however, with enough effort you will win this stage and go onto the next. 

Writing is like traveling to a million places, anywhere that one wishes to go but they do not have to do the actualy traveling. One can be planet Venus and the next second they can be at the bottom of the earth. Writing is an imperative creation for our imaginations to roar!!

Writing is like being a scientist. Sometimes you can make new dicoveries just by exploring every day life just as in writing. If you look at the world around you, at things that are seemingly boring and delve under the surface you have the ability to see new things. Welcome to English 101!

This writing course takes its inspiration from two places. The first is a quote from American novelist Neil Gaiman: "You get ideas from being bored. You get ideas all the time. The only difference between writers and other people is we notice when we're doing it." The second is a website that suggests that the best way to deal with boredom is to dress up your dog. Throughout the semester, we'll be investigating various aspects of writing our everday lives. Where do we find the inspiration to write? How do we write about omnipresent things, things we overlook, things we've always wondered about, even things that bore us? How can we turn that inquiry inward and use it to inform our understanding of the rhetorical process?

As a class, you will develop strategies for using writing as a tool in order to explore and reflect on the world around you, your own ideas, and your individual processes for writing. You will explore beneficial ways to break the writing task into smaller steps, such as generating and organizing ideas, investigating topics, creating early drafts, seeking feedback and revising. You will also improve your ability to adapt a piece of writing to the needs of an audience or situation, and your ability to revise and edit your own writing.
